Questions

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?+

No. JPG throws data away the moment it's created, so nothing can be recovered. What PNG does give you is a file that stops losing quality on every future save, with clean edges around text and graphics.

Will my JPG get a transparent background?+

No. JPG has no alpha channel, so the PNG shows exactly the same pixels on an opaque background. Use the Background Remover tool to actually cut the subject out, then save as PNG.

Is the PNG file bigger than the JPG?+

Usually yes, because PNG is lossless. Photos can grow several times larger; graphics, screenshots and flat artwork sometimes come out smaller than the JPG equivalent.

Can I convert a PNG back to JPG afterwards?+

Yes — the PNG to JPG converter does the opposite conversion with a quality slider, so you can keep a PNG master and export a light JPG for the web.
